Set up your Texas filing

When setting up your Texas return, you'll need to provide the following information.

If you're unsure about any of this information, check your state registration certificate or call the Texas Comptroller at 800-252-5555 (press * [star] to bypass the Tax ID option, then 0 to speak with an Agent).

Do you have a physical presence in Texas?

Physical presence may include: an office, storefront, employee, salesperson, contractor, warehouse, inventory, or trade show attendance.

  • If you answer YES, you'll be asked how many physical locations you have. You’ll then be asked to provide the address for your in-state physical location. If you’re unsure of the address you have registered with the state, you can look it up here using your Texas Taxpayer ID or your FEIN.
    • Note: TaxJar only supports users who have a single physical location in the state of Texas.

Your Texas tax account details

You'll need your sales tax registration information, which was provided to you by the state when you received your sales tax permit.

State Tax ID

Enter the number the state assigned to your business. It starts with 1 or 3 and appears on your Texas Sales and Use Tax Permit.For help finding it, try the Texas Sales Taxpayer Search.

Sales Tax WebFile Number

Enter the WebFile number assigned to your business by the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts. If you can't locate your WebFile number, call the Texas WebFile Technical Support line at 800-442-3453.

Tax filing frequency

Select the filing frequency assigned to you by the state. 

You'll then see the first tax return we expect to file for you, based on the current date and the filing frequency you selected.

Review and submit

Take a moment to review your filing application. Once you've confirmed that all information is correct, click Submit.


What to expect next

After you complete your filing application, here's what happens next:

  • Under review: Within a few days, TaxJar will review your submission for accuracy and process your application. 
    • IMPORTANT: Your TaxJar account is created using the email address associated with your Stripe account, so if the TaxJar team needs to contact you, this is the email address we use by default. (Follow these instructions if you want to change this email address within your TaxJar account).
  • Filing setup complete: Once TaxJar processes your application, you'll get an email when it's time to review your first filing.
  • File your first tax return: When your first filing period is due, you’ll receive an email to review the return before TaxJar submits it.
