Set up your New Mexico filing

When setting up your New Mexico return, you'll need to provide the following information.

If you're unsure about any of this information, check your state sales tax registration certificate or call the New Mexico Taxation and Revenue Department at 505-827-0832 (listen for the correct option or press 0 for an operator).

Do you have a physical presence in New Mexico?

Physical presence may include: an office, storefront, employee, salesperson, contractor, warehouse, inventory, or trade show attendance.

  • If you answer YES, you'll be asked how many physical locations you have. You’ll then be asked to provide the address for your in-state physical location.
    • Note: TaxJar only supports users who have a single physical location in the state of New Mexico.

Your New Mexico tax account details

You'll need your sales tax registration information, which was provided to you by the state when you received your sales tax permit.

When did your tax registration take effect?

Enter the date your business first became liable for New Mexico sales tax. This is when your collection obligations began and should match the date you gave the state when you registered.

Tax filing frequency

This is your filing frequency as assigned by the state or local tax authority. If you’re not sure, contact the tax authority.

You'll then see the first tax return we expect to file for you, based on the current date and the filing frequency you selected.

Review and submit

Take a moment to review your filing application. Once you've confirmed that all information is correct, click Submit.

Also: Approve TaxJar’s Power of Attorney request

To finish your setup in New Mexico, authorize TaxJar to access your tax account. We’ll send instructions via email.

  • IMPORTANT: Your TaxJar account is created using the email address associated with your Stripe account, so if the TaxJar team needs to contact you, this is the email address we use by default. (Follow these instructions if you want to change this email address within your TaxJar account).

What to expect next

After you approve the Power of Attorney request, here's what will happen:

  • Grant power of Attorney to TaxJar: TaxJar will send you instructions to the address on your account to complete the power of attorney authorization.
  • Automatic filing enabled: After access is confirmed, TaxJar will process your application.  Then you’ll be ready to file.
  • File your first tax return: When your first filing period is due, you’ll receive an email to review the return before TaxJar submits it.
