Filing Frequency FAQs
In this article:
What's my filing frequency?
Each state assigns you a filing frequency depending on their specific tax rules and your sales volume. If you attempt to file on a schedule that differs from the one assigned to you, the state may assess penalties and interest and require you to amend your previous filings.
If you've registered for a sales tax license and you're not sure of your frequency, contact the state's department of revenue.
How do I update my filing frequency in my TaxJar account?
If you receive a filing frequency change notice from the state, you'll need to update your state payment schedule in TaxJar as follows:
- Log into your TaxJar account and go to your state nexus settings.
- Click on the state you need to change and click Edit next to Payment Schedule.
- Select the new filing frequency and effective date from the dropdown menus. NOTE: Pay attention to the effective date for your new filing frequency and ensure it matches what you input in TaxJar.
- Click Save changes.
